Ramen Night @ Chaplin DC

^^ From Left to Right: Christina, Kim and some girl named Setarra ;)

Once upon a time when I used to live in NYC, I had my first slurp of ramen at Totto Ramen in Hell’s Kitchen and needless to say, my taste buds fell in love. Since moving back down to the D.C. area, I hadn’t yet found time to explore the ramen scene… But with my girl, Kim, visiting from San Francisco one cold, blustery night, we (along with my other girlfriend, Christina) decided to catch up over some steamy ramen soup at Chaplin in the Shaw/Howard University area of D.C. per Christina’s recommendation and boy oh boy, it did not disappoint.

^^ I ordered the Chaplin made up of pork belly chashu, corn, a seasoned egg, scallions, bean sprouts, black sesame paste and tonkatsu flavored broth. The overall verdict: I loved, loved, loved the ramen noodles which are made fresh in house every single day. Biting into the noodle was just perfect; soft and malleable with just the right amount of chewy texture. The black sesame & tonkatsu flavored broth only served to enhance the already so tasty ramen.

After eating the main course in complete silence because it was just that good, the girls and I caught with each other’s lives. So much has happened in the past year and it felt so good to pick up the conversation as if no time had passed at all. Kim and Christina are going places and I feel so lucky consider them my friends :)
Our friend, Eser, showed up to break up the estrogen party and despite feeling full, we decided to go ahead and order dessert (to share of course). The name of our dessert: 20 Minutes To Love, a moist slice of mousse layered chocolate cake with a scoop of chocolate and raspberry ice cream on the side. The verdict: We loved (and finished) it in less than 10 minutes… Not sure where they got the “20 minutes” from haha. Gluttony for the win.

  • I know! It's never taken me 20 minutes to finish a tasty treat!

I've actually never even heard of this type of restaurant….so glad you found one. It looks really yummy!

  • There is an amazing ramen place not far from my house. I've been meaning to go back there for awhile. I guess I'd better go!

  • Everything looks and sounds so good! I could go for some REAL ramen right about now, too! Yum!
